Diploma in Robotics & Intelligent Systems

This course is designed to broaden and deepen the skills and knowledge in robotics systems, robotics peripherals, systems & control, microcontroller system, smart monitoring system, automation systems, intelligent systems, and smart factory in advanced manufacturing. Artificial intelligence, and industrial internet of things are also introduced in the context to further prepare participants to meet the current and future requirements of the Robotics and Automation Industry.

• Obtained at least 3 GCE ‘O’ level including English Language (minimum C6) and any 2 science subjects (minimum D7 each)

• Other qualifications such as minimum Certificate or diploma in IT, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics will be considered on case-to-case basis.

• 30 years and above at the time of registration with more than 3 years of relevant work experience

Modules

Module 1 : Robotics Systems [36 hours]

Robots offer a flexible way to manufacture goods. On completion of this module, students will be able to evaluate different types of robots and their applications as well as how they are programmed and commissioned.

Module 2 : Robotics Peripherals [36 hours]

This module is designed to provide students with a sound knowledge of robotics technology. The module covers robot anatomy, robot kinematics, different types of drives, sensors, control concept, robotic communication and programming, system peripherals, machine vision system and robotic safety. Upon completion of this module, students will gain a basic understanding of the key aspects of robotics.

Module 3 : Systems & Control [36 hours]

This module provides students with the fundamental knowledge of control system. It includes the characteristics and modelling of physical system, basis of frequency and time domain analysis. The module also covers feedback control system, stability study and PID control. Upon completion of this module, students will be able to appreciate and apply their knowledge to solve real-life problems related to feedback control systems.

Module 4 : Microcontroller System [36 hours]

This module introduces the application design and development process for an embedded microcontroller system. Students will learn to develop microcontroller application programmes. Concepts covered in microcontroller programming are I/O programming, peripherals programming and interrupt handlings. Upon completion of this module, students will be able to demonstrate the use of various basic programming skills and knowledge of an embedded microcontroller system.

Module 5 : Smart Monitoring System [36 hours]

On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the concept and capabilities of Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) to set up a smart monitoring system. Students should also be able to select and configure IoT devices for desired application, acquire data, as well as create visualisations to monitor overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

Module 6 : Automation Systems [36 hours]

Automation systems are used in producing the majority of the world’s products. It involves the identification, analysis, and development of an automation system for a given set of criteria. On completion of the module, students should be able to implement electro-mechanical control systems, including common input/output devices, pneumatics, electro-pneumatics, and Controller systems in industrial automation. Student will synthesise diverse engineering fundamentals including the use of robotic work cells, various types of layouts and Industry considerations to design the systems.

Module 7 : Intelligent Systems [36 hours]

On completion of the module, students should be able to achieve essential knowledge of data acquisition, signal processing and intelligent algorithms related to the industry to meet the needs for intelligent system, which uses AI techniques.

Module 8 : Smart Factory in Advanced Manufacturing [36 Hours]

This module provides learners with the knowledge and skills of implementing automation and robotics technologies in the manufacturing industry. It covers the fundamental concept, system architecture, functionalities, benefits and application areas. Related software, electronic hardware components and sub-systems including programming and configuration skills and the implementation methodology of automation and robotics system will also be introduced. The smart factory concept is introduced to prepare learners for advanced manufacturing
